Habitat Care Program wins Best Paper Award

The Habitat Care Program (Biodiversity Resource Assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation of Mt. Makiling Subwatersheds for Adaptive Management) of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME), College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) won second place in the Best Paper Category in the recently concluded 5th Annual Scientific Conference & 9th General Assembly Meeting of UP REPSS.  The paper “Distribution and Diversity of Tree Species in a Long-Term Ecological Research Plot in Molawin-Dampalit Watershed, Mount Makiling Forest Reserve” was presented by For. Leilani A. Castillo during the conference held in Shercon Resort and Ecology Park at San Sebastian, Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas on 21-23 March 2018 with the theme “The Role of REPS in Transforming UP into a World-Class Research University through Science and Innovation”. It is one of the seven finalists which competed for the Best Paper Award.

 

The paper is one of the scientific outputs of the Biodiversity Component under the Habitat Care Program.  Funded by First Gen, FGP Corp. and First Gas Power of the Lopez Group of Companies, it is a five-year program which started in 2013 with six components including biodiversity.  Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, former director of MCME, serves as the program leader.
