Kick Off Meeting with Batangas Volunteers for Make It Makiling! 2019

In preparation for the Make It Makiling! 2019, the Batangas Coordinators headed by Foresters Valeriana O. Barredo-Parducho and Myranel S. Canceran invited the Batangas volunteers to a preliminary meeting on 11 March 2019 held at the Temporary Shelter, Municipality of Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

A total of 29 volunteers representing different organizations and institutions from Sto. Tomas, Batangas attended the meeting. It is one of the many pre-activities of Make It Makiling! (MIM!), an Annual Lenten Season Visitor Management Program of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME). MIM! aims to increase visitors’ awareness and appreciation of the value of mountain ecosystems and biodiversity; showcase, promote ecotourism practical concepts and principles; enhance visitor safety, enjoyment, and experience within MMFR AHP; and promote volunteerism in the conservation of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP) and mountain ecosystems in general.Forester Barredo-Parducho facilitated the meeting.

Highlights of the preliminary meeting includes the overview of the program presented by For. Arnulfo D. Yanoria, Overall Coordinator of MIM! 2019 and the 12 Rules of MIM! presented and discussed by Dr. Rogelio T. Andrada II, Deputy Director of MCME and Head of the Briefing Committee. The different pre-MIM! activities, schedules and deadlines were also noted during the meeting.

After all the presentations, the volunteers were given time to raise their questions, clarifications and suggestions through an open forum facilitated by For. Myranel S. Canceran, Assistant Coordinator of Batangas. 

Present also in the meeting are Dr. Roberto G. Visco, Director of MCME; Engr. Ruel E. Padullo, Head of Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Sto. Tomas; Mr. Marcos Victor Cornejo, Tourism Office of Sto. Tomas and Mr. Rodrigo Arcillas, Head Forest Ranger of National Power Corporation Makiling Banahaw Watershed Area Team (NPC MBWAT). Each gave short messages to the volunteers.

The meeting ended with a smile on their faces ready to serve visitors of Mount Makiling for the Make It Makiling! 2019
