LARC commits a 3-year TPN in MMFR AHP

The Laguna Water District Aquatech Resources Corporation (LARC) conducted their tree planting activity on 19 September 2018 as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the hillside part of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP) in Barangay Timugan, Los Banos. Laguna. LARC envisioned through this program the need to provide a cleaner and greener environment and a sustainable and good quality water supply for the present and next generation.

LARC forged this 3-year partnership, dubbed as the “Tree Planting and Nurturing (TPN)” program, with the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) and the University of the Philippines Los Banos Foundation Inc. (UPLB FI) on 12 December 2017 through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).

Mr. Emil Puerto, General Manager of LARC graced the opening ceremony of the TPN. He welcomed all the participants and gave a short message on the importance of this initiative for water security of the locality and the country. GM Puerto’s pronouncement was seconded and was given emphasis in the inspirational message given by Dr. Roberto G. Visco, Director of MCME. Dir. Visco stated that in the near future, water will be the most important but the scarcest resource in humanity. Moreover, he said that the next global war will be on access to water resources therefore, the future of the next generation lies in the hands of the present generation.

A total of 2000 seedlings composing of 12 indigenous and endemic forest species were planted during the tree planting. During the tree planting, Dir. Visco demonstrated proper handling and planting of seedlings to ensure its growth and survival amidst critical conditions of the prevailing environment.
