During the 1301st meeting of the UP Board of Regents on September 29, 2014, Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. was elected as the new University of the Philippines Los Baños Chancellor. An oath-taking ceremony and turn over of the University Mace, the symbol of authority of the chancellor, was held at the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) Pavilion , UPLB on 29 October 2014.
The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) welcomed Dr. Sanchez as the 9th UPLB Chancellor who envisions UPLB as a globally competitive research University. He emphasized in his acceptance speech “unity in diversity.” He encourages everyone to help each other and uphold the principles of an ideal civil servant.
Among the guests who graciously attended the oath-taking ceremony are UP President Alfredo E. Pascual, former UP President Emil Q. Javier, former UPLB Chancellor Rex Victor O. Cruz, Los Baños Mayor Ceasar Perez, Student Regent Neill John Macuha, Staff Regent Anna Razel Ramirez, former Faculty Regent Nelia Gonzales, UPLB officials, agency heads of the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc., and family and friends of Dr. Sanchez.
