Tayabak-babae: MBG Plant of the Month for September 2018

The Makiling Botanic Gardens presents “Tayabak-babae” as the Plant of the Month for September 2018. Alpinia haenkei C. Presl., locally known as tayabak-babae belongs to family Zingiberaceae. It is native to the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. It is primarily found in the low and medium altitudes of the forest. In India, they used  its rhizomes as spice and it can also be eaten as vegetable. Come and visit MBG and know more about tayabak-babae!
