The Makiling Botanic Gardens presents “Yanisi” as the Plant of the Month for May 2018. Heterospathe califrons Fernando, popularly known as yanisi belongs to family Arecaceae. It is native to North eastern Mindanao and endemic to the Philippines. Yanisi is one of the most beautiful endemic palms in the Philippines. Its conservation status is critically endangered.
