Gatasan scientifically known as Garcinia venulosa (Blanco) Choisy is a member of the Clusiaceae family and is endemic to the Philippines. The genus Garcinia was named in honor of Laurent Garcin, a French botanist, naturalist, and plant collector. The species name venulosa is derived from the Latin word venulus, meaning “small vein” or “fine veins.”
