The Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME), under the leadership of its Director, Dr. Lerma SJ. Maldia and Deputy Director, Prof. Juancho B. Balatibat hosted the Maki-Salo, a heartfelt gathering to honor its long-standing partners and BFFs of Mariang Makiling. The event, held on 21 November 2024, at the Toyota Education and Ecotourism Theatre (TEET) in the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) was part of the week-long celebration of the 114th anniversary of Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR).
The theme of this year’s festivities, “Building Resilience Together: Uniting for Biodiversity and Conservation,” highlighted the importance of collaboration in preserving and protecting Mount Makiling. The Maki-Salo event brought together key figures, including For. Roberto P. Cereno, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, and Assoc. Prof. Marlo D. Mendoza, Dean of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), along with MCME’s partners.
The event served as a platform to recognize the invaluable contributions of MCME’s steadfast supporters namely the Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation, UBE Media, and Philippine Geothermal Production Company (PGPC) Inc. These organizations have been instrumental in supporting MCME’s conservation efforts for over a decade, helping advance initiatives for biodiversity preservation and sustainable resource management.
Among those present to accept the recognition were Mr. Nelson Manglo of Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation and Mr. Kurt Christian Doctor and Ms. Andrea Nazareno of UBE Media.
The Maki-Salo celebration not only acknowledged the support of these partners but also underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges. It reflected the shared commitment of MCME and its partners to safeguarding the biodiversity and ecological significance of Mount Makiling for future generations.
This gathering was a fitting tribute to the enduring friendships and partnerships that have made significant contributions to the resilience and sustainability of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park.
