The Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) in partnership with the Philippine Geothermal Production Company Inc. (PGPC) through the program entitled: Establishment of an Indigenous Tree-based Agroforestry Development Program in Mount Bulalo established about half a hectare Demo-farm situated at Sitio Bungahan, Brgy, Limao, Laguna. On 15 September 2018, farmers from Barangay Bitin, Bay, Laguna and Barangay Limao, Calauan, Laguna were gathered in the Demo-farm for a ” Bayanihan.”
Prior to harvesting, the farmers had a short leveling off on the possible future activities they would want to do to improve the farm and to ensure its sustainability. Among the suggested activities were the following: training on crop processing (i.e. banana, mushroom and turmeric); packaging and marketing of processed crops; and support linkage to different agencies that helps facilitate agricultural related activities, amenities and equipment.
A total of 24 farmers participated in harvesting peanut in the Demo-farm. Twelve each representing Brgy. Bitin and Brgy, Limao. After the “Bayanihan,” the participants and the project team shared the sumptuous lunch prepared by the project leader himself, For. Nicasio Balahadia.
Present also in the activity were For. Rolly V. Breva, For. Emer C. Gestiada, For. Myranel S. Canceran, For. Leonardo D. Barua, and For. Mae Belen L. Putian.
