Brewing Insights: A Decade of MCME’s Stewardship Unveiled at the CFNR Kapehan Series

The Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) hosted the 3rd installment of the CFNR Kapehan on 27 March 2025 at the A.V. Manza Room, Tamesis Hall, College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), College, Laguna.

Dr. Lerma SJ. Maldia, Director of MCME and Park Manager of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP), served as the resource speaker. She presented “MMFR as an AHP: A Decade of Progress and Challenges since Implementation of the Management Plan,” highlighting key accomplishments, challenges encountered, and ongoing efforts in managing MMFR AHP.

The event underscored the achievements of each thematic program and the challenges MCME has faced and continues to address. Additionally, the Center’s review of the MMFR Management Plan was discussed, emphasizing the restructuring of thematic programs to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in implementing activities, projects, and initiatives for the next decade.

Distinguished attendees included CFNR Dean Marlo D. Mendoza; former MCME Director and current Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan; and former MCME Director, Dr. Jose Sargento. Also present were members of the CFNR Executive Committee: Dr. Analyn L. Codilan (Associate Dean, CFNR), Dr. Rosalie C. Mendoza (College Secretary, OCS), Dr. Tomas D. Reyes Jr. (Coordinator, OCREL), Dr. Marilyn S. Combalicer (Department Chair, DFBS), Dr. Crusty E. Tinio (Director, TREES), Dr. Marco A. Galang (Department Chair, IRNR), Ms. Gillian Katherine I. Quilloy (OIC, DSFFG), along with faculty, researchers, and staff.
