Forester Canceran of MCME participated in the 2018 Workshop on Fostering Global Citizenship for Sustainable Heritage Conservation held in Korea

On 17 to 20 October 2018, For. Myranel S. Canceran, University Research Associate II (URA II) of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) participated in the Workshop on Fostering Global Citizenship for Sustainable Heritage Conservation held at Jeju International Training Center, Jeju-do, Republic of Korea. The said workshop was organized by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), UNITAR CIFAL Jeju/JITC, UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.

It aimed to build capacity among the participants from Asia-Pacific, working in various areas i.e. sustainable development; heritage conservation; global citizenship; community development, while promoting awareness and recognizing the importance of promoting global citizenship.

A total of 23 individuals from 14 countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cook Island/New Zealand, India, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam) participated in the workshop. The workshop includes lectures and presentations by experts, self-assessment exercise, group work and discussion, and action plan presentation. The participants also had the chance to visit two (2) World Heritage Sites in Jeju, the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak and Geomun Oreum.
