Joint trail assessment at Mount Makiling Forest Reserve in preparation for the Make it Makiling! 2026

The UPLB Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (UPLB-MCME), the UPLB Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (UPLB-OVCCA), the National Power Corporation Makiling-Banahaw Watershed Area Team (NPC-MBWAT), and the Local Government of Sto. Tomas City, Batangas, conducted a joint trail assessment on January 24, 2026. The assessment covered the route from the Sipit Trail to the Mariang Makiling Trail within the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve. This initiative is part of the preparations for implementing the Make it Makiling! (MIM!) 2026 program, which focuses on visitor management during the annual Lenten season. The program is scheduled to take place from March 29 to April 5, 2026. Furthermore, this assessment is essential for potentially launching the mountaineering activities referred to as the “Makiling Traverse.” The joint field exercise concentrated on evaluating trail conditions, identifying safety hazards, and determining necessary improvements. These efforts are aimed at ensuring the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve is adequately prepared for the upcoming MIM! 2026 season, as well as for promoting sustainable and responsible ecotourism activities in a broader context.
