On 23 November 2024, the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) hosted Maki-Pinta, an engaging art activity led by Forester Angela A. Limpiada, as part of the weeklong celebration commemorating the 114th Anniversary of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR). This special event, held at the Makiling Botanic Gardens Pavilion, offered a free entrance and art session for all visitors from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN.
The activity began with a prayer led by Forester Mae Belen L. Putian, seeking blessings for the event’s success and favorable weather. Attendees included children of MCME staff and their friends, along with students from UP Los Baños affiliated with the Haring Ibon and Painters Club. Additionally, visitors from Colegio De Los Baños who were exploring the gardens that day joined in the celebration.
A guest performer from Ang mga Kuwento ni Hulyo added a musical twist to the event by playing acoustic instruments crafted from natural materials. This transformed Maki-Pinta into a lively Maki-Kanta and Maki-Tugtog session, as kids enthusiastically jammed along and experimented with the instruments, making it a fun-filled morning for everyone.
The artworks created during the activity will be showcased inside the Toyota Environment Education Theatre (TEET), adding a vibrant and creative touch to the MMFR’s anniversary celebration.
