The Makiling Medical Society conducted a tree planting and nurturing activity at the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP) on September 23, 2024. This initiative aligns with the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems’ (MCME) ongoing efforts to rehabilitate open areas within the reserve by promoting the use of native tree species. The group planted 50 seedlings of Apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus), a native species from the Dipterocarpaceae family that plays a crucial role in preserving the genetic diversity of the MMFR.
The activity was led by Forester Marlo M. Caña, with support from staff of the Forest and Watershed Division (FWD).
This initiative reflects the group’s strong commitment to environmental restoration and contributes to the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable management of the MMFR.
