MakiLingap 2025: Building linkages for the future of Mount Makiling Forest Reserve

MakiLingap was one of the activities of the week-long celebration of the 115th Anniversary of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR). It was held on 21 November 2025 at the Toyota Environment and Education Theatre, Makiling Botanic Gardens in the College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines Los Baños.

Twelve individuals from nine (9) organizations participated, including the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office – IVA, Energy Development Corporation (EDC), Global Peace, Maibarara Geothermal Inc. (MGI), NX Logistics Philippines, Inc. (NXLPI), National Power Corporation-Watershed Management Division (NPC-WMD), National Power Corporation-Makiling Banahaw Watershed Area Team (NPC-MBWAT), Susumi Philippine Logistics, Inc. (SPLI), and UBE Media.

They were welcomed by the MCME Director, Dr. Lerma SJ. Maldia, followed by the introduction of the attendees. An audiovisual presentation about the MMFR was shown. Following this, Dr. Maldia outlined both the ongoing and proposed efforts and programs being implemented by the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) and its divisions.

During the open forum, participants offered suggestions for potential funding sources and discussed ways to get involved in upcoming programs and activities. They were then invited to sign a Pledge of Commitment to the conservation of the MMFR.

The MakiLingap program also featured an Awarding Ceremony for the winners of the MakiMasid and MakiGunita Exhibit. Afterwards, everyone joined the MakiSalo which was a feast prepared for the attendees and staff to enjoy. (Article by For. Carl Carada, photo by RTCabral)
