On May 13-14, 2025, the Drone Training on Long Term and Continuing Aerial Proficiency Program for Assessing, Monitoring, and Evaluating Mountain Ecosystems was conducted. The two-day training was participated in by 20 staff from the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines Los Banos (CFNR-UPLB). The said training is one of the capacity building activities of the project entitled: Scaling-up the Participatory Community-based Natural Resources Management in Four Watersheds of Mount Makiling Forest Reserve and Mount Bulalo, funded by the Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Inc. (PGPC). On the first day of the training at the Toyota Environment Education Theater (TEET) of the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG), an opening remarks and introduction of the resource speaker was delivered by the project leader, For. Leilani A. Castillo. Forester Leonardo D. Barua of MCME served as the resource speaker of the two-day training. During the morning session, For. Barua presented the concepts and theories and equipment introduction and hands-on. The flight simulation and basic maneuvers and other exercises were conducted by the participants with the assistance of For. Marlo M. Caña during the afternoon session at MBG Circle.
On the second day of the training, it was started with a recapitulation by For. Ma. Ruffa P. Guab. The participants conducted the intermediate maneuvers and other exercises at the soccer field of CFNR. The flight plan execution activity was held at the Tayabak Campsite of the Mariang Makiling Trail of Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP). The training feedback and evaluation was conducted before the closing program at TEET-MBG). The participants said that the training was excellent because it was very interesting, fun, learned more than their expectations, best trainer and staff, well-organized, and very informative. The training was concluded by the closing remarks from the assistant project leader, For. Myranel S. Canceran.
