On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) proudly participated in an exhibit organized by the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity (ACB) to highlight the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR) as the 33rd ASEAN Heritage Park (AHP) and the 5th in the Philippines. This is in connection with the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of ACB with a theme “Nature, Nations, Next Generations.”
The MCME exhibit booth was a hub of activity, featuring a variety of communication and public awareness (CEPA) materials. Visitors had the chance to learn about the reserve’s rich biodiversity and its vital role in the region’s ecological health. To make the learning experience interactive, MCME staff engaged attendees with trivia questions about the MMFR’s AHP designation. Correctly answered questions were rewarded with prizes, encouraging public participation and deeper engagement with the park’s conservation efforts.
The inclusion of MMFR in the ASEAN Heritage Parks list is a significant achievement, recognizing the reserve’s outstanding value and its importance for regional conservation. This designation elevates the park’s profile, reinforcing the need for its continued protection and sustainable management. The MCME’s exhibit successfully underscored this message, bringing greater awareness to the treasure that is the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve.
The exhibit at the ACB, running from September 23-25, 2025, is a key opportunity to learn about the importance of Mount Makiling and its place among the ASEAN Heritage Parks. We encourage everyone to visit and discover how they can contribute to the preservation of this national treasure.
