Nurturing Nature Guides: 21 Students Trained as Educators for Nature Tourism

A new batch of Educators for Nature Tourism has been trained, comprising 21 students from diverse academic backgrounds. Among them, 15 are BS Forestry students, while the rest come from BS Development Communication, MS Environmental Science, BS Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology, Math and Science Teaching, and MS Botany programs.

The training program commenced with a warm welcome from For. Leilani A. Castillo, University Researcher III of the Botanic Gardens, Parks, and Ecotourism Division (BGPED). A key highlight of the program was a discussion on tourism in the Philippines, led by Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, For. Roberto P. Cereno. Additionally, For. Angela A. Limpiada, University Extension Associate II of BGPED delivered an insightful lecture on interpretation for the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR).

The second phase of the training focused on practical applications, where students crafted thematic presentations and conducted three to five-minute demonstrations. Each participant showcased their unique approach to presenting topics on selected flora and fauna, demonstrating their newfound skills in nature tourism education.

The program concluded with a formal closing ceremony led by MCME Director, Dr. Lerma SJ. Maldia. The training was successfully facilitated by For. Alexis John T. Fajardo, Forest Technician II and For. Mary Anne G. Abadillos, University Research Associate II, ensuring an enriching experience for all participants.
