The tree planting and nurturing activity initiated by NX Logistics Philippines Inc. on August 24, 2024, at the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR), an ASEAN Heritage Park (AHP), is a commendable environmental initiative. This event aligns with the efforts of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) to rehabilitate open areas within the reserve by promoting the use of native tree species.
Forty participants (see picture below), including NX Logistics Philippines Inc. President Shigeyoshi Nakayama, took part in planting 2,000 seedlings of various native species such as Putian (Alangium javanicum (Blume) Wangerin), Duklitan (Palaquium tenuipetiolatum Merr.), Lamog (Planchonia spectabilis Merr.), Narra (Pterocarpus indicus Willd forma indicus), Kalumpit (Terminalia microcarpa Decne. subsp. Macrocarpa), Malaruhat (Syzygium nervosum DC.), Makaasim (Syzygium nitidum Benth.), Betis (Madhuca betis (Blanco) J.F.Macbr.) and Balobo (Diplodiscus paniculatus Turcz.). These species contribute to preserving the genetic diversity of the MMFR.

MCME’s Deputy Director Juancho B. Balatibat and Forester Marlo M. Caña led the activity, supported by staff from the Forest and Watershed Division (FWD) and the Protection and Regulation Unit (PRU). The planting site was located in Saimsim and Mabilog, Sta. Elena, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, within the boundaries of Mount Makiling.
This effort reflects a strong corporate commitment to environmental restoration, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable management of the MMFR.
