On September 27 to 28, 2017, Foresters Nicasio M. Balahadia and Myranel S. Canceran of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) participated in the Research & Development (R&D) Review of Project on Rubber and Cacao held at Western Philippines University, Puerto Princesa Campus, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. They attended in behalf of Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, Project Leader and former MCME Director.
For. Balahadia presented a paper on the accomplishments of the project entitled “GIS-based Inventory and Sustainability Assessment of Rubber and Cacao in Major Production Areas of the Philippines” funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development – Department of Science and Technology (PCAARRD-DOST). Dr. Roberto G. Visco (new MCME Director) and Dr. Cristino L. Tiburan, Jr. (UPLB-CFNR Faculty) were also involved in the said rubber and cacao project. Researchers from different State Colleges and Universities in the Philippines that have research on improve rubber and cacao industry in the country attended the two-day R&D review.
