SALUGNAYAN 2018 held at the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) #successful

On 21 August 2018, the Salugnayan 2018 was successfully held at the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) in the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR). Salugnayan 2018 with its banner title: SOAR meaning Students’ Outdoor and Academic Reorientation Program was participated by new freshmen, students, student organizations, faculty and staff.

The Salugnayan was hosted by the Institute of Renewable and Natural Resources (IRNR) headed by  Dr. Margaret M. Calderon, Director of IRNR. The program included lectures and games. Among the lectures given were the following: 1) Academic Survival I: Study Techniques and Time Management discussed by Dr. Rogelio T. Andrada II, Assistant Professor 7 of IRNR and  Deputy Director of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME); 2) Academic Survival II: Safety and First Aid demonstrated by RED CROSS UPLB; and 3)Familiarization with Field Conditions facilitated by MCME staff.

Students were exposed to the future they are to face, to become a Forester. With the help of the MBG Educators for Nature Tourism (ENTs) which are also students who were trained to be guides and staff of MCME, these freshmen hiked the Dipterocarp Arboretum and Ecotrail to be familiar with the conditions inside the forest.

A total of 387 participated the Salugnayan 2018. It was truly a success and brought light and enjoyment to everyone who attended.
