As the blooms of May reached their full splendor, the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) embraced the season of growth by launching its mini sportsfest on 30 May 2025, highlighting the Center’s commitment to holistic health and wellness for its employees.
In a vibrant display of energy and camaraderie, two spirited teams faced off on the court: the Yellow Team, composed of staff from the Botanic Gardens, Parks and Ecotourism Division (BGPED) and Forest Watershed Division (FWD); and the Blue Team, representing the Protection and Regulation Unit (PRU), Social Forestry Division (SFD), External Linkages and Decision Supports (ELDS) unit, General Administrative Services (GAS) unit, and the Director’s Office.
The friendly but fierce basketball matches brought out the best in both teams. In the end, the Yellow Team swept victories in both the men’s and women’s divisions. For. Analyn Malayba and Mr. Paolo Gayahan were recognized as the Most Valuable Players for their outstanding performances and sportsmanship.
More than just a day of play, the Sportsfest fostered team building, camaraderie, and a shared commitment to health and well-being. It also underscored MCME’s dedication to supporting its staff not only professionally but also personally, encouraging a balanced lifestyle as they continue their work in sustainably managing the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP).
The event aligns with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Health and Wellness Program, supporting the Civil Service Commission’s directive to promote regular physical activity in the workplace. Going forward, the MCME Sportsfest will be a regular initiative to encourage physical wellness and reinforce a thriving, dynamic work environment, rooted in the same vitality that Mount Makiling inspires.
