On a holiday, 12 June 2019, two (2) partners in Tree Planting and Nurturing Project (TPN) conducted their activity in Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP).
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) of Los Baños, Laguna conducted nurturing activity at their adopted site in MMFR at the back of the CFNR Alumni Guesthouse. Supervised by MCME staff, Mr. Jose Sonny Castillo, Jr., around 20 Municipal Jail personnel participated in the conduct of brushing, cleaning and ring weeding activities. This activity of BJMP is in line with their celebration of 8th BJMP Community Relations Service (CRS) Month with the theme “Magbantay, Mag-ugnay, Magmalasakit.” It aims to promote the role of BJMP in changing lives of people behind bars and its role in building a safer nation.
Along with this, the Los Baños Evangelical Baptist Church (LBEBC) conducted “Tree Planting and Nurturing, and Day of Prayer” at the planting site adopted by the Los Baños Faith Christian School, Inc. (LBFCSI) at the old residential area near the CFNR sawmill. A short program was held and a clear instruction on how to do the activities properly was discussed by MCME former director, Dr. Jose O. Sargento, and also one of the elders of LBEBC. One hundred (100) seedlings of Philippine native species were planted in the area. Seventy-five (75) of which came from MCME Central Nursery while the remaining 25 came from the UPLB Land Grant Management Office (LGMO).
A total of 43 participated in the activity. The male participants (23) did the tree care like pruning, debranching and maintenance activities like brushing, cleaning/removing of vines around the tree; while the females (20) did the ring weeding on the trees planted previously in the area. This activity was spearheaded and coordinated to MCME by Dr. Sargento.
