
Strengthening international relationships and collaboration of the academe, the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) hosted the tree planting activity for the visit of H.E. Ms. Sarah Hulton, OBE, British Ambassador to the Philippines and Palau. This event was held on 30 January 2026 and led by the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) Chancellor, Dr. Jose V. Camacho Jr, together with the UPLB Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) Director, Dr. Lerma SJ. Maldia, MCME Deputy Director, Dr. Alona C. Linatoc, and the MBG lead researcher, Leilani A. Castillo. During the tree planting, Forester Castillo explained the four Dipterocarpaceae species that were selected, highlighting them as native species, ecologically significant, and vital to the forest structure and carbon sequestration. This momentous event is a testament to the long-standing commitment and role of UPLB as an academic institution towards climate action and environmental sustainability. (Article and photo by For.
