The Youth Summer Program on Environmental Education for this year took place at the E. Barretto Sr. Elementary School in Pansol, Calamba City, Laguna. It was held on May 20, 21 and June 10. The participants were from Grades 5 and 6 students of the school. A total of 40 students and three faculty members participated in the program.
The first two days of the program were filled with interesting lectures and interactive literary and art activities. Topics discussed during the program include Environmental Principles; Forest, Effects of Forest Degradation; Global Warming, and Climate Change; Importance of Mount Makiling as a Natural Resource and its Point of Interest; Policies, Laws, and Regulations in MMFR, and other mountain ecosystems; Watershed: An Introduction; Creative Work on Literary Artworks and Paintings; and Development of Environmental School/Community Project. Meanwhile, the third day includes activities like visiting the Mudspring, an environmental amazing race at the Makiling Rainforest Park, and a tour of the Makiling Botanic Gardens.
The program closes with the awarding of certificates for the participants and the winners of the amazing race and the slogan, poster, and essay contests. The teachers and students of the participating school also gave their feedback and narrated their experiences. Lastly, For. Leilani A. Castillo gave a message of gratitude to all the participants for their active participation and the teachers for their unwavering support for the success of the program.
