Germany Official Plants a Tree in Mt Makiling

German Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Mr. Hans-Joachim Fuchtel visited the Philippines. Part of his itinerary is to plant a tree at the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG), Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR) – a biodiversity conservation area, and now an ASEAN Heritage Park.

On October 29, 2014, Mr. Fuchtel planted a narra seedling at the Makiling Botanic Gardens. Narra belongs to the family Fabaceae with scientific name Pterocarpus indicus forma indicus Wild. For its strength and beauty, Narra is hailed as the Philippines’ national tree. He was accompanied by ACB Director Roberto D. Oliva, GIZ-BCCP Director Dr. Berthold Siebert, MMFR Park Manager and MCME Director Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan and MCME Deputy Director Dr. Manuel L. Castillo.
