ASEAN EU conducts tree planting at the Makiling Botanic Gardens

The ASEAN European Union through the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) conducted tree planting activity on 02 December 2022 at the Dipterocarp Arboretum, Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG), College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) Campus, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).  The tree planting activity is part of #ForOur Planet Campaign in celebration of the 45th year anniversary of the ASEAN-EU partnership.  The anniversary also included a Bike45 Ride bicycle tour at UP Los Baños Campus.

The ASEAN-EU delegation led by Ambassador Luc Vèron and ACB Executive Director Theresa Mundita S. Lim planted threatened Dipterocarp species as per DAO 2017-11 namely Hopea malibato Foxw. (Critically Endangered), Dipterocarpus gracilis Blume (Vulnerable), Hopea plagata (Blanco) S.Vidal (Vulnerable) and Dipterocarpus grandiflorus Blanco (Vulnerable).  The seedlings planted are part of the collected threatened species of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) funded program “Ex-situ conservation of Threatened Plants: Restoring Philippines’ Plant Resources and Environment”.
