CBD Executive Secretary, Dr. Palmer visited the Makiling Botanic Gardens

After spending a whole day on meetings with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and ASEAN Center for Biodiversity (ACB), Dr. Cristiana Pasca Palmer, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) visited the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG).

Dr. Rogelio T. Andrada II, Deputy Director of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) gave a brief orientation about the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park  (MMFR AHP) and MBG. After which the group proceeded with the tour accompanied by Atty. Roberto Oliva, Director of ACB and other staff. The tour highlighted MCME’s main programs inside MBG related to biodiversity conservation.

One of the highlights of the tour is showing Dr. Palmer specimens of Medinilla magnifica, the Philippiines’ national plant symbols and the theme gardens of the MBG: Hardin ni Maria, Philippinensis row and the Zingiberales collection among others. After the brief tour the group of Dr. Palmer and Atty. Oliva proceeded to Tagaytay City for their other engagements.
