The Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) Plant of the Month (POM) for March 2019 is the “fish tail fern” or scientifically known as Nephrolepis biserrata (Sw.) Schott. It belongs to family Nephrolepidaceae and is also known as forked sword fern and macho fern. It is endemic to Florida, Mexico, the West Indies, Central America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Fish tail fern is widely cultivated in various gardens in the Philippines.
Trivia: Fish tail fern can be eaten as vegetable and it contains antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Amazing!
