The Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) Plant of the Month (POM) for June 2021 is the “kuhl’s palm” also known as the “ivory cane palm.” It is scientifically known as Pinange kuhlii Blume that belongs to the family Arecaceae, endemic to Indonesia.
Ivory cane palm is a clump-growing palm with slender stems that are usually smooth and pale green in color. The color of its fruits changes in color as it matures. When young, its fruit s are color yellow/pink then becomes red/black when it matures.
