MCME launches its first-ever Barangay Spa Massage Health and Wellness in MMFR AHP

On 17 April 2024, the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME), College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) launched its first-ever Barangay Spa Massage Health and Wellness in Barangay Sta. Elena, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas. The Barangay Sta. Elena Spa Health and Wellness is one of the non-forest-based livelihood projects that will be implemented in the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP) area in cooperation with Barangay Sta. Elena massage core group. The said spa massage is a result of the series of trainings conducted from the Phase 2 Project entitled “Participatory Development through Community Based Natural Resources Management in Mount Makiling Forest Reserve and Mt. Bulalo” in line with the health and wellness component of the project. It was funded by the Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Inc. (PGPC).

The launching was led by Barangay Sta. Elena Officials headed by its administrator, Hon. Edwin Villegas, Mr. Octavio Centeno, Ms. Joyce M. Lopez from PGPC, and For. Nicasio M. Balahadia, Project Leader and Social Forestry Division Head of the MCME-CFNR, UPLB. Ms. Thelma Villamor, Massage Trainor from the Public Employment Service Office, Municipality of Los Baños, Los Baños Laguna and Ms. Luzviminda G. Quiatchon, Head of the Barangay Sta. Elena Massage Core Group were also present during the launching program.

The Barangay Sta. Elena Spa Massage offers a wide variety of massages located at the Barangay Hall Compound of Barangay Sta. Elena, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas.
