Palm Grass is the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) Plant of the Month (POM) for May 2021. The palm grass or scientifically known as Molineria capitulata (Lour.) Herb. belongs to family Hypoxidaceae.
It is a perennial evergreen herb with yellow flowers and hairy petals. It has white berry like fruits. Its fruits are edible with sweet taste. The leaves of palm grass produced fibers that are used as ropes, fishnets, and food wrap. Its rhizomes on the other hand has medicinal uses that believed to cure eye infections and gastric disorders.
