Lithocarpus sulitii Soepadmo also known as “pangnan” is the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) Plant of the Month for September 2020. Pangnan belongs to family Fagaceae endemic to the Philippines.
Pangnan is an evergreen tree with glabrous leaves. Its male and female flower is separated from one another. This is distinct to pangnan. Its male flowers form a cluster while its female flowers are solitary. Its wood is commonly used for furnitures, wood tiles and turnery.
TRIVIA: The seeds of pangnan resembles the acorn of oaks with distinct cupule.
