On 16 and 17 January 2018, a group of Malaysian and Thai people visited Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR) ASEAN Heritage Park (AHP). A total of three (3) from Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and eight (8) from Royal Forest Department, Thailand traveled to the Philippines to experience and learn more about Mount Makiling. They are part of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCo) Project team which aims to promote rehabilitation of degraded lands, promote sustainable forest management, and contribute to combating desertification.
The Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) welcomed the AFoCo Project Team and provided them with a 2-day itinerary. They had courtesy calls with the MCME Director, Roberto G. Visco and with the Dean of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), Willie P. Abasolo.
Among the places they have visited were Mudsprings, MCME Central Nursery, Makiling Rainforest Park (MRP), Biodiversity Park, Dupont Tree Planting and Nurturing Project as part of the corporate partnership and environmental restoration program of the Center, National Arts Center (NAC), MMFR Buffer Zone Area in Los Baños, and the Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG).
The team were very happy with the 2-day trip in Mount Makiling and signified interest in coming back.
