On March 20, 2019, the Local Trade Management Committee conducted a briefing with the residents of Purok 3, Barangay Bagong Silang, Los Banos, Laguna held at the Station 1 of the Mariang Makiling Trail (MMT).
A total of 38 residents of Bagong Silang attended the meeting. Make It Makiling! (MIM!) is a yearly event conducted during the holy week organized by the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME). It aims to increase visitors’ awareness of the value of mountain ecosystems and biodiversity and encourage the visitors to be a responsible hiker/camper. It is also part of the program to help the local traders be responsible traders inside the mountain.
Ms. Gillian Katherine Inciong, Head of Local Trade Management Committee reminded all the residents of Bagong Silang who also served as local traders to follow the rules and regulations in trading. She gave emphasis on the commodities strictly prohibited in the area such as cigarettes and liquor. She also reminded everyone to properly dispose their garbage to ensure cleanliness in the mountain.
After which, For. Gardie Canilan, Head of Peace and Order Committee discussed the allowed entry and exit time of vehicle and other related rules and regulations to ensure peace and order during the entire event. The schedule of campsite clean up was then discussed by For. Aldin C. Alegre, Head of Camping and Hiking.
Present also in the briefing was SGIII Ernesto Lazaro Jr. of the University Police Force (UPF). He further discussed the rules and regulations of the university with regards to vehicles.
The briefing became a venue for the residents and MCME to further discuss how to improve the food stalls during the event. The open forum was facilitated by For. Nicasio Balahadia, Assistant Chair of Local Trade Management.
The briefing prepared the local traders to be ready in Make it Makiling 2019!
