Another milestone was recorded for The Habitat Care Program (Biodiversity Resource Assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation of Mt. Makiling Subwatersheds for Adaptive Management) of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME), College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR). The program won again second place in the Session 3 Best Paper Presentation Award in the recently concluded 14th International Conference with the theme “Biodiversity in a Changing Climate and Landscape” organized by Forest and Natural Resources Research Society of the Philippines, Inc. (FORESPI) held at Nicolas P. Lansigan Auditorium, CFNR, University of the Philippines Los Baños on 8-9 November 2018.
Forester Leilani A. Castillo presented the winning paper entitled “Assessment of an Agroecosystem in Cambantoc Watershed, Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP), Philippines” during the Session 3 – Protected Area Management, Upland and Coastal Biodiversity Management Conservation of the conference held at the Conference Room B of the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) on 08 November 2018. A total of seven (7) paper presentations competed for the award.
The paper is one of the scientific outputs of the Biodiversity Component under the Habitat Care Program. The program is funded by First Gen, FGP Corp. and First Gas Power of the Lopez Group of Companies. It is a five-year program which started in March 2013 with six (6) components namely: Vegetation Characterization, Biodiversity, Phenology and Seed Treatment, Carbon Sequestration, Socio-Economic and Ecotourism. Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, former director of MCME, served as the program leader.
