Los Baños, Laguna – As part of the ongoing mini sportsfest of the Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME), employees were gathered on 28 June 2025, for an exhilarating volleyball tournament, underscoring the Center’s commitment to holistic health and wellness.

In a spirited showcase of teamwork and athleticism, two randomly selected teams — the Yellow Team and the Blue Team — faced off in an intense series of matches. The friendly but fierce competition saw both sides battling point for point, culminating in a thrilling best-of-five showdown. Ultimately, the Blue Team clinched victory, sweeping the games and earning well-deserved cheers.

For their standout performances and exceptional sportsmanship, For. Analyn Malayba (11 points), Mr. Marvin B. Torio (9 points) and Mr. Jose Sonny C. Castillo Jr. (9 points) were named Most Valuable Players.

More than just a day of play, the event strengthened bonds among colleagues, fostered camaraderie, and promoted shared commitment to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. It highlighted MCME’s dedication to supporting its staff not only professionally but also personally, as they continue their important work in sustainably managing the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve ASEAN Heritage Park (MMFR AHP).

The volleyball tournament aligns with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Health and Wellness Program and the Civil Service Commission’s directive to encourage regular physical activity in the workplace. MCME plans to continue the sportsfest as a regular initiative to inspire physical wellness and nurture a dynamic, engaged work environment — reflecting the enduring vitality of Mount Makiling itself.
